Year 1

Teacher - Miss Mellon

Year 1 is the first year children engage with the National Curriculum, as such there is a more structured environment where children are encouraged to be more independent.   The children also have increased responsibilities both within the classroom and the school, an example of this would be our School Council Representatives.   We have lots of fun in Year 1 with exciting topics including learning about toys from the past and present in History; exploring Barnaby Bear’s travels around the world in Geography and investigating light and dark in Science.

These topics are supported by appropriate field trips including London Zoo for Science, Chiltern Open Air Museum for History, theatre trips for Literacy amongst many other trips into the local area including our School Allotment!

We also have a daily routine including numeracy, literacy and phonics which are taught through a combination of written work and play.
