Year 2

Teacher - Mr Martin and Mrs Archbold

Year 2 is the year in which children develop rapidly, both academically and in terms of their independence.  This independence is encouraged in daily routines and homework.

In History we learn about developments in medicine through the life of Florence Nightingale and visit the Florence Nightingale Museum as part of our studies.  We study the story of the Great Fire of London and share what we’ve learned in a class assembly.  In Design Technology we investigate vehicles and then design and make our own with moving wheels and parts.  We work in groups to act out puppet shows using puppets we have designed and made ourselves.  For Science we learn about plants using the school grounds and allotment to carry out practical work.  We study forces and visit Legoland to carry out a friction and gravity investigation. We also begin to play the recorder and learn more about rhythm in Music lessons.

In Year 2 we get really excited about performing the main speaking parts in the Christmas Nativity play.  It is our chance to act, sing and dance in front of our family and friends.
