Welcome to the Year 5 section of our school website. In Year 5 we have many different and exciting topics for every subject. In Literacy we read books by a wide range of authors including Michael Morpurgo and Floella Benjamin. We also learn to write in a variety of different styles, from writing haiku poems to persuasive letters and creating our own myths.
In Geography we learn about rainforests during our Mexico topic. We also get to visit ‘The Living Rainforest’ in Newbury where there are lots of amazing animals and plants to see! We study volcanoes and earthquakes. Year 5 children get to create model volcanoes in Design and Technology and make them erupt! There are some great Art/Design and Technology topics in Year 5. We create colourful Caribbean Art, sew collages and we have several opportunities for cooking.
We perform in a number of class assemblies throughout the school year. Usually in the Spring term we act out an entire Shakespeare play! The Year 5 and 6 students are also involved in house matches at the end of each term. There are a number of clubs open to Year 5 students such as Netball and Drama.
One of the highlights of Year 5 is visiting Green Park. This is a residential trip and we are able to do a variety of different activities such as archery, mountain biking, rock climbing and many more.
