Year 1 is the first year of the National Curriculum, as such there is a more structured environment where children are encouraged to further develop their independence. The children also have increased responsibilities as soon as they start in Year 1, both within the classroom and the school. An example of this would be our two School Council Representatives who attend meetings twice a term to put across the class’ views and opinions on the set agenda.
We have lots of fun in Year 1 with many exciting topics including learning about toys and games from the past and present in History, exploring different parts of the world in Geography and we even go under the sea for our Literacy!
Our curriculum is also supported by many fun and exciting, yet appropriate, school trips. We visit The River and Rowing Museum in Henley to support our Science topic of materials; The Chiltern Open Air Museum to support our History topic of toys, plus many trips in to our local area.
