Welcome to the Year 5 section of our school website. In Year 5 we have many different and exciting topics for every subject. In English we read books by a wide range of authors from Britain and around the world, including Beverley Naidou and Cressida Cowell. We also learn to write in a variety of different styles, from writing stories to persuasive letters and creating our own poems.
In Geography we learn about sustaining the rainforests and about the Commonwealth. In History, we learn about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings. We also visit ‘The Living Rainforest’ in Newbury where there are lots of amazing animals and plants to see! We study volcanoes and earthquakes and the children create model volcanoes in Design and Technology and make them erupt! There are some great Art/Design and Technology topics in Year 5. We create colourful Dragon Art and cook Viking bread for a feast.
We perform in a number of class assemblies throughout the school year. Also, we play a variety of traditional sports, such as a football, tag rugby and netball as well as less traditional sports, such as ultimate frisbee.
One of the highlights of Year 5 is visiting Green Park. This is a residential trip where we do a variety of different outdoor and adventurous activities such as archery, mountain biking, climbing and orienteering.
