Year 2 is the year in which children develop rapidly academically and become more established independent learners. This independence is encouraged in daily routines and with homework.
Year 2 has an expansive curriculum where we will explore many different topics including:
In History, we learn about the developments in medicine through the life of Florence Nightingale. Children also have a wonderful day travelling back in time with Florence Nightingale to find out more about her life and work during the Crimean War. We study the events of the Great Fire of London and look for evidence to find out about the past.
In Design and Technology and Art, we investigate vehicles and then design and make our own with moving wheels and parts. We will also be designing and creating our own animals to go with our English topic in our first term. We work in groups to act out a puppet show, as well as recreating scenes from books that we will be reading though the year.
In Science, we will be learning how to categorise objects and know if they are alive or not. We shall also be looking at and planting our own plants in the summer term and learning about the conditions plants need to grow.
In Music we will be looking into different genres of music and learning about them and their composers/creators. We shall also be learning how to play the recorder.
