Welcome to Year 3!
This is the year that we endeavour to give the children opportunities to become more independent. As they begin their journey in Key Stage 2, they are encouraged to be more organised. They start to change their own reading books, select whatever resources they need for their learning (for example hundred squares in numeracy) and learn to keep focused without an afternoon playtime any more!
The children begin to learn French in Year 3, which they really enjoy. They continue to learn new notes in recorder lessons, ready to perform at the Year 3 /4 Music Assembly. RE and PSHE lessons encourage the children to really think about more spiritual and moral issues, and how to develop themselves as they journey through life, both at St Pauls and in the wider community. Our PE and Games lessons help to keep them fit and healthy. Premier Sports specialists will lead their basketball and gymnastics sessions this term.
We have 2 trips organised so far. We will visit Chiltern Open Air Museum to learn about life in the Stone Age. The Roald Dahl Museum trip is a great opportunity to promote the local author’s work. It also highlights the importance of editing work to make the best possible final draft, also a good link to our Growth Mindset approach to the childrens’ learning. We will also host an Ancient Egypt day in school. This mixture of drama and practical activities was very well received last year.
There is a lot to learn and enjoy in their first year in KS2!
